You may be busy making moving plans so that everything is ready once the time comes. It can be a tiring process so you will need to properly plan for it in order to make the move less stressful.

Following are 5 ways to prepare for your move while you are waiting for escrow to close:

1. Find a Good Moving Company

If you don’t plan to move everything yourself, obviously you will need to find a good moving company before doing anything else. There are a number of ways to do this. You can either look on the internet for reviews of local moving companies or talk to your realtor for recommendations. If you want to hire the services of a moving company, then first make sure to check for any issues or complaints with licenses locally. Also don’t forget to get references. A good moving company has highly trained employees, offers a binding estimate, and also provides a wide range of services without being problematic with a client’s contract.

2. Organize Your Home

Once you have found a good moving company. It is time to start organizing your belongings so that the moving process becomes easier. You can make the entire process far less stressful by packing up each room in a specific order without mixing each one’s contents, labeling and/or color coding each box, and making sure everything is prepared for the move before the actual moving date arrives.

3. Get Rid of the Old Stuff

Get rid of the old stuff that you don’t need or the stuff that you think is not worth paying to have moved. If the items are still useful, then you can give them away to your friends and family or to a charitable organization. And if the items are beyond use, then you can simply throw them away or recycle them. You can also make profit by selling old stuff on eBay if they are worth some money.

4. Clean Everything

You probably cleaned your house and belongings already when putting it up for sale. But it would be a good idea to do it again before the move. A lot of homeowners forget to have their old home and belongings cleaned before relocating. Have your old clothing washed or dry cleaned, dust everything as it goes into boxes, get your rugs cleaned, etc. Not only will the new owners appreciate the gesture, your belongings will also come out of their boxes fresh and nice.

5. Appraisal and Insurance

Before the move, you want to make sure that you have protection for your possessions. One of the best ways to do that is to request an appraiser to visit for any collectibles, fine art, or antiques. Furthermore, it is also recommended that you get an insurance plan to cover the move. You will need to purchase a policy that matches the appraisal you get from whoever you hire.
